Brenda Lee is an American singer. This 4 ft. 9 inches Little Miss Dynamite is best known for her 1960s hits like “I’m Sorry” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”. Lee was born Brenda Mae Tarpley on December 11, 1944. At age six, she won a local singing contest sponsored by local elementary schools. The reward was a live appearance on an Atlanta radio show, Starmakers Revue, where she performed for the next year.
Lee soon became the primary breadwinner of her family at the age of ten after her father died. She performed on talent shows, radio, and television shows. In 1956, she released her record “Jambalaya” but her big break came in 1960 when she released “Sweet Nothin’s” which peaked at No. 4. She went on to release her biggest hit “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”.
Lee has worked with some notable artists like Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Kris Kristofferson, and Willie Nelson. She also performed for Queen Elizabeth at the London Palladium on November 2, 1964.
