Janet and 28 of her most experienced dancers are off on a road trip.
They’ve been booked to dance on La Grand Soiree - the most watched French television show of the festive season. Janet and her team must get the dancers there, record the show and return to Paris in time for their regular evening performance. But morning rush hour means the coach is going at a snail’s pace and it transpires that traffic isn’t the only problem.
Back at the Moulin Rouge, Jen and Erin are gearing up for their big stage debut. To settle their nerves and mark their investiture as official showgirls, Head of PR Fanny has arranged a photoshoot. It’s a chance to strut their stuff in some of the cabaret’s most spectacular costumes, costing up to an eye-watering 18,000 euros each, and including a bejewelled outfit that Erin has coveted since she was a child.
Janet and her dance troupe arrive at their destination an hour late and scramble to get their sequins secured and feathers fluffed. But before the cameras start rolling, Janet spots a problem that could end the performance before it's even begun. The temporary stage is covered in loose floor tiles and dizzying flashing lights. With less than an hour to go before they have to record the performance, the technical crew move fast to make it safe. But there’s very little time left for a run-through before the cameras start rolling - and Janet’s nerves are frayed.
With the TV recording in the can, Janet and her dancers hotfoot it back to Paris for the evening’s show. Jen and Erin are joining them in front of a packed house, which includes Erin’s boyfriend and parents, who have travelled from Liverpool. With less than an hour to curtain up Janet arrives backstage to wish her nervous new showgirls the best of British. It’s taken three weeks of pure grit and determination to get to this point. Now they must prove to her that they’ve earned a permanent place on stage at the world’s most famous cabaret.
